Aim of training
The
training of professionals who, in possession of theoretically grounded knowledge, skill
and abilities, are qualified to teach Judaism and Jewish theology. The teachers of Judaism
possess up-to-date general knowledge, and the knowledge of foreign languages. they are
committed to the values of Hungarian Culture and are socially responsive. They are characterized by universal human and Jewish values, and
respect Jewish moral standards. A sense of responsibility and duty towards the individual
and the community, the need and ability of constant learning and refinement of mind and a
healthy lifestyle are the essential characteristics of the teachers of Judaism.
The
level of qualification
The qualification of the teacher of
Judaism is attainable within the course of college training.
Length of training: eight semesters.
Name of degree: teacher of Judaism.
The qualification authorizes the teaching
of Judaism and Jewish theology, and the conveyance of the Hungarian and universal Jewish
spiritual heritage to the children between the age of 3 and 18.

Contents
of the training
The training focuses on the students’
absorption and communication of the spiritual values of
Jewish religion and culture which also includes the knowledge of the general laws of
society, culture and thought.
The specialization provides a
scientifically grounded pedagogical and psychological training which prepares candidates
for the knowledge and development of children between the age
of 3 and 18.
It is a methodological and practical
training that introduces the candidates to up-to-date methods necessary for the guidance
of learning and for the development of personality with children in this age-group. The
specialization also provides the possibility to practice this knowledge in a school- and
nursery environment and develops special pedagogical skills.
The specialization provides the effective
knowledge of Hebrew which is essential to the acquisition of Jewish culture.

The
order of the training
The undergraduate training consists of all
studies required for the acquisition of the degree:
a./ studies providing general knowledge and
preparing for the teaching in nurseries and schools comprise 25% of all classes.
b./ subjects of the special field of Judaism comprise 59% of all classes.
c./ Hebrew language training comprises 16% of all classes.
The total number of class hours (3346)
contains the teaching of theoretical
and practical subjects.
Practical training comprises 13% of the total duration of undergraduate training. It
includes the candidates’ visitation of classes, individual and collective teaching
practices in schools and practices performed in the fields of pedagogical and
subject-pedagogical studies.
Undergraduate studies are supplemented by
optional classes based on the students’ professional interests and their self-developing
needs.

The
examination
Obligatory subjects for the comprehensive
examination:
psychology
Jewish history
Torah
Hebrew language
The place of subjects and study-units in
the curriculum, the time of their acquisition and examination is regulated by the college
curriculum. The elements of the curriculum are conceivable as a module system. The
requirements of teacher-training should be adapted to the partial or full introduction of
the credit-system.
The degree thesis and its defense at the
state examination forms an integral part of the training. In order to obtain the degree in
teaching Judaism the candidate must sit for the state examination. The state examination
consists of two parts:
a./ a written examination in the subjects
of Halacha and The Bible.
b./ an oral examination in the subjects of
Halacha and Jewish History.
The defense of the degree thesis takes
place on the oral examination.
The teacher-trainee, in case of meeting the
requirements and the successful passing of the state examination, receives a degree. The
elements of the degree’s assessment are the following:
the preparation and defense of the degree
thesis,
the results of the state examination,
the results of comprehensive examinations
the results of the final teaching practice.
